I challenge you not to grow teary-eyed over this true story of a couple who gave birth to a micro-preemie—a child born at twenty-three weeks with a body so fragile that on the day of her birth, the nurse has to caution the dad not to rub Juniper’s skin or her skin might fall off. This story of resilience and love will curl around your heart, reminding you that even the darkest moments can lead to light. —Adrian Liang, The Book Review. And to some happy tears. Babies like Juniper, born at the edge of viability, trigger the question: Which is the greater act of love -- to save her, or to let her go?Kelley and Thomas French chose to fight for Juniper's life, and this is their incredible tale. She weighed 1 pound, 4 ounces, and her twiggy body was the length of a Barbie doll. They probe the bond between a mother and a baby, between a husband and a wife. "Must Read" according to meandmyself. As someone about to start my neonatology fellowship this year, I was intrigued after hearing about this book on NPR. I have to say this book describes life in the NICU with great accuracy. It opened my eyes to see the NICU from the perspective of a parent, and it helped me understand my patients' families better. It's an absolute must read, that I couldn't put down. I've been recommending it to all my friends.. Cara Fitzpatrick said Wonderful book. This is a gorgeously written and brutally honest book. I cried. I laughed out loud. My husband found me, lying in a pile of laundry, engrossed in this story about two imperfect people who persevere to create this fierce, perfect little girl. It's a window into the world of neonatal medicine and the extraordinarily difficult choices parents face when babies come too soon.. "Magical Story of Love" according to Rebecca Ripley. Even though I knew from the beginning that Juniper was now a happy, skipping, climbing, thriving little girl, I was taut with anxiety as I read the story of this wee soul, born much too soon. I was awed by the strength and ferocious passion of Tom and Kelley--and totally smitten by the hospital staff. My admiration and appreciation for nurses has always been high, and skyrocketed as I read this magical story of love.
