It's not the Cartel, but what is? Winslow is one of my favorite authors. Cartel was one of my top ten books of all time. The Force is good, but it isn't the Cartel. I've read all of Winslows books and this is my least favorite.It starts out with the main character in jail and just gets relentlessly bleaker and blacker the rest of the novel. If you're on anti depressants you may want to increase your dosage before you start.There's no on. "Sadly, his weakest book" according to Mr Majestik. I’ve enjoyed reading Winslow’s prior novels like California Fire and Life, The Winter of Frankie Machine and The Gentlemen's Hour. But his latest is a dud. I found it one dimensional, full of cliches and unlikeable characters. But hey, he’s written over a dozen good books, so even a champ has to lose once in awhile.. I was so excited to begin it that I pawned off two meetings and family movie night (I know, I know).
