"The Saga Continues, Thankfully" according to Amazon Customer. Enjoyed this book as much as I had hoped. When I got to the Ninth Book in the Series and learned of the Death of Robert B. Parker, I was taken a bit aback due primarily to being aware of at least fourteen Jesse Stone books. I read the reviews and plunged ahead by purchasing this book. My wife and I had recently watched the Jesse Stone movies for the first time, so I was familiar with that story line, too. I am sure that contributed to a smoother transition between styles. It is not Robert B Parker, I think anyone who was a Fan will understand that those were some fairly large shoes to fill.. "Brandman is no Parker, not even close." according to Kindle Customer. Where to start, I have read all of Bob Parker's books and was saddened when he died, I thought I that would be the end of some of my favorite literary characters. This book does a major disservice not only to Parker but also to Jesse Stone. Stone, like Spencer always had a moral compass and a code he lived by. Brandman either didn't understand this code or chose to ignore it. Parker's Stone would never hold and torture a petty criminal never mind having some of his underlings participate in this disgraceful endeavor. Partner's Stone would never speak to people in the classless manner that B. I gave him a chance I started reading with an open mind. But, this is not even close to Jesse. Jesse was not sanctimonious, this Jesse kept "holding forth" on his own opinions, lecturing others. There is no bond between the Chief and his officers, especially Suitcase. Jesse and every other Parker character has a code which they live by. This Jesse talks too much, is one dimensional, not cerebral, and too much like a shallow tv series character. Don't get me wrong, I love Tom Selleck as Jesse, but TV is not a novel and there has to be some substance to the character, at least enough to want to read the next boo
