Heather F. said What a great reference book for anybody who sews. I am thrilled with this book. I sat down and read through the entire thing as soon as I got it. It gives detailed explanations on what qualities different fabrics have and what kind of projects they are good for. As an avid quilter I am very knowledgable about quilting fabric. But, as a novice clothing and bag sewist I need some help when it comes to what kinds of fabric are good for diffrent projects.Not only does she give info on fabric, but she also includes descriptions about notions and pattern symbols. I think this is a great reference book fo. Excellent Reference, Packed with Info. This book is small, but packed with important information. Most fabrics have one page dedicated to it, with a photo or two of the fabric. There is a short synopsis, but again full of information. No wasted words. Then she goes on to give you what I consider the most important. Properties, including drape, weight and special considerations. Then there is working with, including what type of needle to use, cutting out, thread, stitch length. Lastly there is care, including pressing and shrinkage. Each fabric has designated icons that show what the fab. RSV said Great reference!. I was wary of buying this book b/c I wasn't sure what it would contain. It isn't a "reading" book, but more of a reference manual. Something that is very handy for a self-proclaimed "beginner-intermediate" sewer. It has categorized all the types of fabrics according to weave and each one has it's own page. She describes how the fabric was made (interesting), how to care for it, what kind of needles to use with it, etc. Never again will I wonder what to do with cotton voile or anything else I either have never used or don't use often.
