DESCRIPTION:
NightZone, a mammoth astronomy theme park, is bringing in jobs, media, and such new infrastructure as a slick narrow-gauge railway to transport tourists from the village of Posadas to the tramway running up the mesa to the project's site. With morning come two strange incidents. Stacie Willis Stewart, a former Posadas volleyball star, locks up her baby and Jack Russell terrier in her Volvo, walks away to local superstore The Spree - and disappears. He then leads a fruitless search for her inside the store. No luck - but he does score a man with an Elvis haircut and his wife when they return to the Ford with stories that don't add up. A former teacher spots the child and dog before the heat can kill them. And, last night, a homegrown Banksy had
"Who shot the coach?" according to Auntie Annie. I'm a fan of Steven F. Havill's Posadas County mysteries; I've read all of them just as soon as they were released and followed the unfolding stories through Bill Gastner's changing occupations. Now that Bobby Torres is sheriff and Estelle Gutierrez under-sheriff, the characterization is still fascinating and plotting still tight. In this particular book, I found the chapters that took place in the girls' locker room, where a body was found, to drag a bit. This is unusual for this series, which is why . M. Gonzales said Come Dark. Mr. Havill's entire series is wonderful. Even though Bill Gastner's involvement is limited in this book, Havill has set the stage for continuing story telling with the other characters he has created. Havill has a way of introducing new residents of Posadas County so that it is not obvious if they are villains, involved bystanders or innocent citizens. I have read this series several times now and Come Dark is a great addition. I like the way this book continues from the previous books to create an ong. Superior story, great series Dennis G. Jones This series just keeps getting better and better. I read several series that regularly make the Times top 10, and none are in the same class as Mr. Havill's series. His characters are full bodied, the crimes are realistic, the plots and developments are fantastic. There are few current writers as good as this author, it is a real shame he is not much better known and much more widely read.
