Ms. Thompson does an excellent job describing the brutality of the NYS Police retaking the prison and subsequent years of stonewalling and obstructing justice by the State of New York towards the prisoners but also the hostages and their families. Clearly the author is left leaning as she rarely mentions the violent crimes the prisoners committed to get incarcerated at Attica in the first place. This does not justify the brutality of the police, but would provide a m. year old. Ms. Thompson does an excellent job describing the brutality of the NYS Police retaking the prison and subsequent years of stonewalling and obstructing justice by the State of New York towards the prisoners but also the hostages and their families. Clearly the author is left leaning as she rarely mentions the violent crimes the prisoners committed to get incarcerated at Attica in the first place. This does not justify the brutality of the police, but would provide a m. e.b. said An excellent, thorough, engaging history. This book is a wonderful example of how to turn investigative reporting into an engaging story. Thompson analyses every angle of the story and brings the events and people to life. I truly felt I understood something deeper about American history and culture after reading it.
