While this thoroughly enjoyable book deftly describes his many adventures with Elvis and other notables, including the Beatles, Ann-Margret, the Beach Boys and Billy Joel, the heart of it is his many observations of Elvis's inner exploration. Unlike the rest of Elvis's posse, Schilling was liberal in his musical and racial views, and he shared Elvis's spiritual hunger "for a sense of meaning and purpose." Schilling provides the most detailed account yet of the sometimes com

In 1964, Elvis invited Jerry to work for him as part of his "Memphis Mafia," and Jerry soon found himself living with Elvis full-time in a Bel Air mansion and, later, in his own room at Graceland. These vivid memories will be priceless to Elvis’s millions of fans, and the compelling story will fascinate an even wider audience.. "Best book written on Elvis from his friends perspective" according to SASunshine. I love this comraderie between Elvis and Jerry Schiling. To me, it is the very best book written about Elvis with many unique untold stories from Jerry about his times spent with Elvis. I do believe he was one of the few of the Memphis Mafia that was really Elvis' friend, and I believe Elvis was aware what a good friend Jerry was. It shows a perspective of Elvis from someone who truly cared about him. I find Jerry humble and caring. I'm g. "Great Elvis book" according to rewinc. I had the honor of meeting Jerry Schilling in Tupelo, Mississippi in June 2015. What a kind and nice man. He is just as gentle as his voice (if you've ever heard him speak either in person or on Elvis satellite radio). It was awesome to finally meet one of Elvis's best friends.. Only For Elvis Maniacs Schilling tells not even half the story and, if you are an Elvis fan, you know it already, and unsanitized at that. The word "drug" is never spelled in more than 300 pages: why Elvis died remains to him, apparently, a mystery. But I think the most ridiculous point of the book is the one (not) made about Andreas Cornelis van Kuijk. You look invain for this name too. So one wonders who is responsible if Elvis never made an international tour: a fact that could have contributed (according to Schilling: and everybody agrees on that) to keep Elvis away from his path to self-distruction. The portrait of the Colonel Sc
