DESCRIPTION:
Tak wants to rule the world. Somebody's eyes have to pop out. Forget the more-or-less literary novels of recent years, like Dolores Claiborne. These books mark the return of the Stephen King of The Stand and Pet Sematary, where King's main concerns where whether good could defeat evil and how much gore could be squeezed into (or out of) one book. Somebody has to stop him. He can also change form and summon the help of creepy creatures, including scorpions, snakes and spiders. Though the family seems doomed, an unlikely hero emerges --11-year-old David Carver--who finds his own way to get around the Law. Desperat
Never before on a retail CD! Stephen King reads his bestseller about a little mining town, Desperation, that many will enter on their way to somewhere else. And it is a place where several travelers are abducted by Collie Entragian, the maniacal police officer of Desperation. Entragian uses various ploys for the abductions, from an arrest for drug possession to “rescuing” a family from a nonexistent gunman. But getting out is not easy as it would seem…Located off a desolate stretch of Interstate 50, Desperation, Nevada, has few connections with the rest of the world. There’s something very wrong here, all right, and Entragian is only the surface of it.The secrets embedded in Desperation’s landscape, and the evil that infects the town like some viral hot zone, are both awesome and terrifying. But as one of the travelers, young David Carver, seems to know—though it scares him nearly to death to realize it—so are the forces summoned to combat them.. It is a place, though, where the seams between worlds are thin
"Beware Small Town Sheriffs!" according to Karen L.. I read this book a few years ago and couldn't put it down! I loved this story, and the lessons it made me consider. A sheriff is taken over by an ancient evil and reeks havoc! Unleashing hell on everyone unfortunate enough to cross its path. Amid the destruction, there is Hope, but only to those brave enough to do what must be done! One of Mr. King's best thought provoking stories. God works in mysterious ways, you never know when you might be called upon!. "As good as I remembered" according to Pinkdiamond. When I first got into Mr. Stephen King back in middle and high school, it was this book that really put him on the map for me. Reading this book again for the first time sixteen years later, I know why.I wanted to go back and re-read all of the classic King books before I started getting into his new stuff (I sort of fell off from The King after I read Dreamcatcher and then Just After Sunset - wasn't a terrible fan of those, sorry to say) and I finally made it to my all-time favorite and that is this one, Desperation.I p. "Just as good as it was in 1996" according to S.C.. I had initially read this book shortly after its original publication in 1996 and really enjoyed it. It was just as good of a read the second time when I finished it recently. One thing that was interesting on the second read was that the book did not seem dated even more than 20 years later. I find that this is consistent among many of King's books. Overall a great re-read and definitely recommended for fans of King's style and stories.
