Although I'm studying systems design, I find the topic as presented in this book to be redundant and boring. The entire book centers around using the UML (Unified Modeling Language) to draw out various diagrams and flowcharts for how systems should operate. Better book on a dying topic This book is a good book with some good examples about a topic that is slowly dying. Many of the ideas are still relevant even though the book is getting old. I'd recommend this book to people who need it for a course (even if they are supposed to have the new book). If you are trying to get familiar with design patterns on your own, this book will give you more than enough foundation, but I'd try to point you in the direction of some books
