highly recommend This book was recommended by one of my art instructors. So much good information on products and painting techniques. I have many notes and tabs in this book and refer to it frequently. Lots of full color painting to demonstrate the author's suggestions for composition, tonal value, color and light and various techniques. I highly recommend this book for any beginning or intermediate painter.. Gary Guitar said But I took a chance on this one and really like the way the author presents art concepts. There are so many art books it's hard to decide which to buy, especially if you can't see the contents, and most of them generally cover the same topics. But I took a chance on this one and really like the way the author presents art concepts: materials, composition and design, tonal value, color and light, techniques, and demonstrations. I think painting is mostly about doing, and I didn't really want a lot of theory, but l learned a lot and it gave me useful ideas and techniques I could really use. She also has lots of step-by-step demonstrations, AND I actually like the style of the painting exam. "The walk throughs at the end are worth the price." according to KDB. This book is very helpful and the author has some excellent "tutorials" in the back of the book. What is nice about these mini lessons is that she not only gives you the pallet but also shares why she made the decisions she did concerning layout and light. In a few of the mini lessons the original layout was changed halfway through because it didn't look right. What a relief to see a professional painter show that many times things are not perfect at the beginning!
